Thinking about making individual repos for client projects instead of using a master repo. All for client access and hooking into basecamp. 3 hrs ago
…over 1000 hours of video will make its way onto Live for rental at about $4 a go, or for purchase (at an unstated price). Hard to imagine Xbox 360 doing for PC-free online movie downloads what all the other companies couldn’t or haven’t (we’re looking at you TiVo, Netflix, iTV, etc.), but then again Microsoft did start up with that Xbox Live music video download thing last year. Seriously though, what a coup would that be if Microsoft swooped…
The new iPod video formatting is extremely hard to follow and hopefully this review will help. I created it because I just wanted to put the highest quality video on my 5g video iPod for playback on a TV.
DVD Ripping
The first hurdle was finding the app that would rip my DVDs to H.264. I used Instant Handbrake (with the unofficial icons of course) in the past, but as you might know it rips the DVDs in the old file size of…
One of Jared’s rants with iTunes and podcasting was fixed today. You can now just click on ’subscribe’ in the store without be redirected. There are a ton of other “improvments” as well. One example is the album artwork browsing and now iTunes will update your music with album art if you’d like automatically.
“Wired columnist Bruce Schneier has an article up called ‘Quickest Patch Ever’, about a patch that was issued within three days to fix a vulnerability in Windows Digital Rights Management (DRM).” From the article: “Now, this isn’t a ‘vulnerability’ in the normal sense of the word: digital rights management is not a feature that users want. Being able to remove copy protection is a good thing for some users, and completely irrelevant for everyone else. No user is ever going…
FairUse4WM + Yahoo! Unlimited = the perfect music store.
I’ve opened an account to ‘test’ this and it works perfect. And having an unlimited monthly music subscription with no DRM just right for me. And I think this is going to be the only way for the P2P generation to start paying for music. I just wish the RIAA would wake up.
I’d also like to say The Yahoo! store (application) is awesome not better then the iTunes store but the best feature is…
So many raids with so many advantages.
With the Mac Pro coming I’m trying to figure out my storage dilemmas. Currently I’m using a 1 TB NAS which is so awesome but then again it’s for the bridge and it’s completely full. I love it because it’s fast and redundant because I set it up with Raid 5.
My problem is I have all of my photos, video and music on there; where has to be since my (modded) iMac’s storage is…
# The Zune brand is intended to be an entirely vertically integrated end-to-end solution, not unlike the iPod / iTunes / iTunes Music Store triumvirate.
# The service and device will not be PlaysForSure compliant, meaning you will not be able to use your Zune player with Napster or Vongo, for example. This will be an entirely new system. Microsoft will continue to support and develop for their PlaysForSure initiative, but all things PlaysForSure are handled by two entirely separate division…
Another copy and past from Jason’s original post on scary stats.
I agree that BOOKS are regarded too high, almost as if they are the great tool of knowledge. In the past, books were the mainstay for increasing knowledge, fair perceptions of life and the world. Now it’s different and with many new media streams people can be very knowledgeable, still increase imagination and find avenues of philosophy without even touching a paper book.
Similar to what Nathan said, smart people have convinced…
Microsoft plays the DRM lock down too, with an added service.
To attract current iPod users Microsoft is going to let you download for free any songs you’ve already bought from the iTunes Music Store. They’ll actually scan iTunes for purchased tracks and then automatically add those to your account. Microsoft will still have to pay the rights-holders for the songs, but they believe it’ll be worth it to acquire converts to their new player.
Pretty amazing how this little conference changed so much. Jared and I have talked at length about how there were other mp3 players on the market before the iPod and this little video proves there were but also gives the reasons why no one remembers them or why they didn’t work.
