Having an IM conversation with someone in Iran, turns out they "hate" Bush...so random. But I had to reply, "that's why I voted for Obama" 6 hrs ago
Looks like if you really don’t like iTunes but you want an iPod you can now use winamp through just a few checkbox configuration. I also noticed you can now use Amarok to sync on linux, which is cool but there are so many other options.
Sequential-Access drives are different than Direct-Access drives and need to be treated as such. For a while now I had always thought differently because my experience with tape was only on OS X Server. And those machines had programs that managed the tape drives for ease of use.
With a little knowledge under my belt I know differently and now I’m passing it on:
The 2.4 kernel has built-in SCSI support so you may want to upgrade. I’m using SLES 9 and…
Fedora 7 released
Fedora 7, the latest version of the popular community-driven Linux distribution sponsored by Red Hat, was released this morning. This is the first Fedora release to incorporate and unify both the Core and Extra platform components, thus obviating the need for the traditional inclusion of the word “Core” in the distribution’s name. This is also the first release to be constructed with Fedora’s new build system, which will vastly simplify development of custom versions and derivatives.
I’m looking forward…
Well it looks like Digg is going down in flames right now.
It all started with someone submitting the HD-DVD encryption key for Linux playback yesterday. It eventually got to the homepage and then “mysteriously” disappeared. Apparently Digg took it down claiming that they must abide by the “law”, referencing intellectual property and their own TOS.
So the digg “community” is all up in arms, with good reason. I say good reason because there may be ulterior motive for Digg to can…
I’m in need of a laptop for with small form factor, 2 gigs of ram and can run fedora without any hassles. I’ve looked at Lenovo, Sony, R3 and Jared recommends this one but I just can’t find anything better then a black macbook. fedora supports the new intel macs and I’ve yet to find any compatibility issues. The form factor and design is the sealer for me, although I’d prefer the thinkpad design. And with the price being a few hundred less at…
It’s bad to remember how to flush DNS in windows and not know what to do in OS X, when it’s your main system.
Windows:
C:>ipconfig /flushdns
OS X command
bash$ lookupd -flushcache
Linux:
$/etc/rc.d/init.d/nscd restart
I read this great article [PDF version] yesterday from Linux Format a UK magazine. After reading it I felt fedora was the distro to use specifically for the Xen support and it’s only downfall being it’s package management which could easily be fixed with just using yum. In the same journal was a full spread on fedora; it’s community and future. One wonderful thing to here was the change in direction for packages and dependencies which will help with software being…
In case you’re wondering I have taken some measures to make my torrent experience a little safer/anonymous. In the process of trying tor for OS X I ran into some problems, it’s damn easy to setup for firefox but not so easy for Azureus–being the only OS X bittorrent app that allows proxy. Hopefully
XTorrent will add the functionality soon. But with Azureus not working so great, I just really dont like the UI and the plugins aren’t too easy to…
I know it’s a “Tiger” theme but this webmin theme has made my use of webmin so much more productive. Webmin is a great tool for all sys admins, it’s open source and very powerful. The Linux Link Tech podcast had the inventor and head developer on their last show and even though I stopped 25 minutes in the one of the issue they brought up was the UI. And in my experience the UI was it’s only fault. Now not…
You can build a feed that contains the exact stories you are interested in from Digg.com. You can filter by: description, category, submitters, number of diggs, and number of comments.
Finally, I can now get a tech feed or any other for that matter that doesn’t have a stupid ass digg story or something with Kevin Rose in it. I could also get a feed of diggs over 300 so I can weed out the real crap or even get a…
