1. iDVD ‘08 won’t start

Turns out that the older iDVD themes aren’t compatible with the new iDVD and since I had every version of iDVD it was causing iDVD to just show a splash screen an then shutdown. In order to fix the issue you need to clear out the old themes and then trash an application support folder in your user directory.

Step 1) Delete all old themes. Themes are located in your system’s library folder-

    /Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes

Only theme folders iDVD 1, iDVD 2, and iDVD 4 need to be deleted.

Step 2) Delete the ‘Installed Themes’ directory here,

    username/library/application support/idvd

    Step 3) Start iDVD.

  2. iLife roundup

With my two recent posts on iMovie, iDVD and iPhoto I couldn’t leave out Garageband and iWeb. iWeb is pretty cool as far as I could see and if I need to make a simple static site I would probably go there first. It won’t help with eBay like I hopped for Sara but it will if she wants to make a site for Avery.

Garageband, I don’t know. I do know the newest version seems centralized around podcasting but I rather not even try. I’m not into music and I don’t need to edit audio so it really isn’t my bag. I do recommend if you don’t plan on using it you delete all the sample files it installs, it would free up a lot of space.

  3. Avery’s 2005 DVD

Played around with iMovie and iDVD’s new magic features today and I have to say there has to be some real magic behind it. I made an Avery 2005 DVD today in just a couple hours with some great menus and effects in a couple hours. I love how I can make a really great DVD with a couple clicks and drags rather then messing with layers, effects, handeling, angles and preview rendering like I had to in the past with programs like Aftereffects and Encore; who are we kidding I couldn’t create the templates that they include anyways, especially in the ‘06 additions.

And this is why I always recomend a mac. If you have a digital still camera, you need iPhoto. You have a cam, you need imovie and iDVD. It’s just that simple, no wonder they call it iLife.
