1. Go Dodgers!

Went to the second game of the NLCS today, I’m not a huge baseball or Dodger fan but live MLB games are great. This happens to be my second year of playoff baseball, both years were  in the bleachers and I sort of like it out there. It’s very rowdy and crazy, they’re also good seats because you can see the whole field — including the pitch which is much easier to follow.

We ended up parking behind the “Think Blue” sign on the hill.

It took us 2.5 hours to get out of the stadium and get to a restaurant 5 miles away. Luckily traffic wasn’t that bad back to Ventura.

summary of why you’re the perfect candidate: energetic and I don’t give up; love to prove myself wrong–that I can win on this show; I tend to say really stupid stuff ( which could be clipped for the world’s enjoyment ); occasionally funny; I have a good social network through twitter and my blog to make fun of me when the show is live; and I assume that I live close enough to the set so I could drive out there on early notice.

So I did it, I applied to the Wipeout Casting people. This is what I said:

Well that’s it. Maybe they’ll contact me, maybe not. I’ll probably get my ass kicked if I did try but it sure looks fun.

AGH! There was  another app that I had to fill out, mostly the same stuff but a lot of checkboxes. It’s too much to post here though.

  3. New Years Resolutions 2009

Here’s my list of new years resolutions. It’s late but I have a good reason (#3).

    1. Build my business – create a client list, raise my rates, work 30-40 billable hours a week. I’d like to go to some conferences (write off :)), maybe SxSw and definitely WordCamp.
    2. Finish and deliver more Extend projects – I’ve been lacking on support and updated some of my most popular releases
    3. Be more deliberate – stop rushing things out the door (like this list, that’s why it’s late :))
    4. Take the kids to DisneyLand – if they’re good
    5. Read more books – at least one a month, audible counts
    6. Write more blog posts – I think I’ll create a life.dancameron.org blog for the more personal stuff (mostly iPhone image posts) or use another service for them
    7. The big one (just like everyone else) – workout consistently. I’m about to buy some weights for my office/game-room
    8. Be at home more – “at home” means off the computer and with the kids
    9. Go back to school – whether it’s online courses for IT/Web or “real” school I need to learn.
    10. Prioritize my time better – I wont be able to do any of the things above if I don’t prioritize my time and set attainable goals
  4. Sawyer Timothy Cameron – Born 08.13.08

Welcome to the family Sawyer. Luckily you have a great big sister to watch over you.

There will be a ton of pictures on flickr…in the next couple days. I’ve been crazy busy; juggling work and Sawyer has been great for putting the important things in perspective for change.

  5. Old Look, New Feel

After trying to figure out what to do around here I settled on ditching my old theme.

I wrote about the reasoning behid that theme here.

Now, I settled with my ‘07 theme with one big addition – the RSS Stream or LifeStream (as I like to call it).

I’m currently just using the RSS Stream plugin to pull in the feeds. The setup is very basic and instead of modifying the plugin to accept the Google Shared and Google Starred atom feeds I’m just running them through feedburner conversion. The second part of my setup was simply changing the generic feed icons to match the feed.

I’d like to do a lot more, like pull my the Google Shared –notes and links only– into posts so people can comment. Other more reasonible updates include:

    • more feeds (e.g. netflix)
    • Inline images for flickr
    • formatting the feeds better
    • styling (e.g. Twitter posts look bunched)
    • reply links. If it’s twitter, then a link for a twitter reply.
    • displaying the notes from G shared items (stretch goal)

Even with these goals I’m prepared to do nothing more for a long time. I’d prefer to post more than worry about this stuff. I wish Freind feed made it easier for us, without forcing users to ff.com.

  6. NewsGang Live 04.09.08

Jared and I are fans of the The Gang NewsGang GillmorGang and luckily he’s been listening to it more than I have because he mentioned I was called out on last Wednesday’s show (NewsGang Live 04.09.08). I still don’t know what I said to cause the “Dan Cameron wrote something today that I just noticed today…who’s Dan Cameron anyway..I’ve seen his name but I don’t know who he is…” and the discussion leading into this was “active disdain” about the show; even Steve said “he doesn’t remember”; all that I can think about is a comment, over a year ago, that I left on the old Gillmor Gang site when it was part of Podshow complaining about one of them snoring (real snoring) during the best part of the show.

It should be known that I like the show, it’s the only podcast I listen to regularly, even though there’s just too much content now-a-days. It’s also getting better since the G’ Shared “incident” hasn’t been a main topic of discussion lately, even though it still gets thrown in there like twitter.

Maybe someday I’ll call into the NewsGang, without being a lurker. It would be fun to argue a little, throw in some corrections and observations. But I may not be able to contribute unless it’s about Apple or eCommerce.
