Sara, Avery, and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night and I really, really enjoyed it. Some people said that it was going to be dark and that Depp was horrible as the Willy but I really did not see that at all.
For someone that never read the book and only saw the first movie, I think Tim Burton did a wonderful job and I think Depp did a great job as Wonka; maybe a little too M.J. without the molestation but nothing too “weird”.
There were some parts of the fist movie that didn’t make it this time a round that I was totally waiting for [spoiler ahead] like the contract they had to sign, the spy and the floating bubbles that Charlie and his Grandpa “stole”. They left those huge plot lines out of this movie and went more in the direction of family and love instead of the “contract”. And I agree with the change, what a better message to send to kids; family is more important then anything in the world, rather than upholding a contract and honesty. All great lessons to teach your children but with everything being so consumer friendly these days it’s great to see a movie not sell anything more then family (in the plot) to the younglings.
