Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka…

Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka…

Sara, Avery, and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night and I really, really enjoyed it. Some people said that it was going to be dark and that Depp was horrible as the Willy but I really did not see that at all.
For someone that never read the book and only saw the first movie, I think Tim Burton did a wonderful job and I think Depp did a great job as Wonka; maybe a little too M.J. without the molestation but nothing too “weird”.
There were some parts of the fist movie that didn’t make it this time a round that I was totally waiting for [spoiler ahead] like the contract they had to sign, the spy and the floating bubbles that Charlie and his Grandpa “stole”. They left those huge plot lines out of this movie and went more in the direction of family and love instead of the “contract”. And I agree with the change, what a better message to send to kids; family is more important then anything in the world, rather than upholding a contract and honesty. All great lessons to teach your children but with everything being so consumer friendly these days it’s great to see a movie not sell anything more then family (in the plot) to the younglings.

I thought you had addressed it to me as it came after my comment.
    and said " but...you... "

Didn't take it personally. Was not offended, just responding.

I said "guys"...not DAVE. Don't take everything so personally. Geez.

Dan first brought it up above ..."maybe a little too M.J. "...
  • Martha
but...you make the comparison to Michael. That taints the great fun of Willy Wonka. Whatever, what's done is done.

Dave Z said ...." No cut on the movie, I'm sure it's good. "
  • Martha
Oh come on guys...let's not ruin Willy.

No cut on the movie, I'm sure it's good. The first one was good.

your orginal comment got me thinking about it, when I saw the commercial for this movie it reminded me of MJ and the ranch and how much the two " characters ( MF and WW ) " are similiar.

Hey- don't forget about Tori Sydney! I thought the movie was great.
I agree with JB- Willie Wonka is a weird character and Depp is a weird guy, so he played him well. The kids were all good too, especially Augustas Gloop. Good movie.
  • Ya, I've heard lot's of people talk smack about Depp being in this role, but it seems to me like he'd be great for it; he's a pretty good actor all around, and the Wonka role is supposed to be a little creepy - it was that way in the original too, you're supposed to never know (at least until the end) whether he was cool or a psychopath.
