Wii vs. 360

Nintendo WiiI just can’t figure out what to do. Either return the 360 and get the Wii (if I can) or just keep the 360. I just made a spreadsheet for cost comparison, I guess I need to do a matrix for pros and cons now.

My hope is the Wii will make us want to play games again, I’d think Sara would love it. There’s a web browser so we could watch youtube on TV and it’s a little cheaper then my current 360 setup.

The 360 does DVDs, plays the classics, and will have an HD DVD add-on which will end up costing more. The 360 is hard to explain, it’s a full powered tech gadget that does tons more then just play games. But I find myself not using all those bells, especially since WCME doesn’t support XVID and DivX streaming. Then the games come into the picture. The games that are coming out look amazing; Gears of War, Lost Planet, Tony Hawk and Halo 3. The graphics on the 360 kill the Wii so much I’m worried to play those standard def games after playing what I am now like Dead Rising and Tony Hawk’s P8 demo.

But the Wii has something more important then graphics, FUN. And fun for all; all the games look exciting, the graphics look crappy but like the DS it’s not noticeable when the game has playability.

So it’s either a tech gadget that does DVDs, HD DVDs, Media Center and a little more vs. a really fun game console. I’m leaning toward the Wii and the iTV from Apple. That way I’ll get my HD downloads streamed the right way and I’ll have all the fun I could have with every classic Nintendo game available for download.

Now I just have to get a Wii (just in case I decide to ditch the 360, :). I do have a couple plans: Toys ‘r us and the mystery spot on launch day.

    Wow... read all the posts...
Strong feelings in here... Yup... ok... here's the truth. I am old enough to afford this stuff - doesn't that simple message in itself speak to the sale records -vs- target market. Think about it. Who are you buying a console for - (a) your bachelor self, (b) your kids or (c) saving your allowence - from taking out the trash every week etc.. Buying a console is the beginning - what about all the add-ons? I have owned every console I can think of from pong - PS3 and I started playing video games when Vic 20 was cool and the co-co3 commador64 was the latest gaming system before Colleco-vision and Atari 2600. I seen Nintendo evolve Mario after Mario. I seen Sega go flop, DreamCast go flash in the pan and later Xbox come out of nowhere and dominate the online world with the next generation of freind-to-friend gaming.

I think it is fair to say that comparing the 360 to the Wii is like apples & oranges. Yet there is something to be said from a ground zero mind set that the Wii is more intended for people who literally want to "jump "right into a game and forget the story line or the character's background or getting wrapped up in a game's acheivements & progress save after save. Just play - Just do it.

It appears my girlfriend and her kids like the Wii better. My sense is because mainly of "exercise" and secondly the games sort of are "feel-good" games that are not promoting real violence or enemy like chatter. I haven't played every game. We hop around like Wii-tards with our Wii-nier sticks working up a sweat having fun. Its very entertaining for "US". The key is "us" - fun for the family. Its simple play.

When the lights go out and I want to play something that I can "feel" something that is complex Call of Duty, RainBow 6 Vegas 2, Dead Space, or Obilivion goes in the Xbox 360 or RockBand, Scene It or Witz & Wagers for when friends are over. The 360 connects to my credit card and bang I'm updating my game library without leaving the house. MSN Messenger and the added chat pad I am texting my friends and voice chat in an enviroment that really is well perfected and expected to be better on the Nov.19/08 - with the New Xbox Experience arrives.

Actually I am a Macintosh fan not a Microsoft fan so I wouldn't support Microsoft in anyway for many reasons including the copying of ideas and concepts from other companies. (i.e. Windows/Mac Os and recently the Avatars from Ninentdo). Sony - arn't they already financial giants and Nintendo, well they've been around long enough to know how the market works - see their sales: They out sold 360 by like 20 million (xmas 2007) and right now people are scalping Wii's on Ebay. None of these companies need me as a Fanboy (so to say) - Capitalism needs fanboys like a rebel without a cause.

    Here's my non-prejudice take:
The Wii - First complaint - I swing like 3 times to the on-screen dude's 1. Its a very cool concept - motion sensors, but not perfected yet. I find it very very inaccurate to what i am doing. No wonder we work up a sweat when playing boxing - swing you bugger! Swing! as you nearly throw your shoulder out. HA! HA! See already you find it entertaining, right? But alas, if you're someone who likes realistics, responsive game play and graphics - the Wii is seriously going to disappoint you. My jaw dropped when I seen that Wii Sports - baseball - the out fielders have no legs and the blechers have no fans just a honeycomb of collors. If you played NBA 2K9 for Xbox 360 it is like you're watching the game on TV. Wow, even Nintendo 64, Showdows of the Empire, looked better than the game that launches and is bundled with the Wii (Wii Sports). Sad. And at core, the dash board of the Wii is very much designed for someone who is not into computers or mimimal concept of advanced Interface Design...

Concluding that if a choice had to be made it would be first on gaming preference rather than brand name, but since a choice needs to be made for those who can't afford the fictional Wii60.com bundle... I think children are pretty safe to play their hearts out and not be influenced too badly on a Wii; whereas, the 360 has more M rated games and a close connection to MSN messenger and "strangers" and a far more advanced online community which I like and its the reason I like my 360 better. Even has a web cam add on.

Finally, if you appreciate the people at Ubisoft and those who take the time to design mufflers and brake lines on race cars for the few split seconds your car rolls over on the track and catches fire, and you like online gaming, and you suspect you'll play by yourself more than with a room full of friends on the coach, and if you like percision controls - go with the 360. Did I meniton that I can also plug my flash drive/USB pocket drive in my 360 and watch .avi movies, share pictures and listen to my MP3s.

The Wii also does much of the things the 360 does too, but in a different way. Think Microsoft=computers and Nintendo=cartridge games (a heart). In closing I would "ALMOST" feel comfortable saying that if you're not a coach potatoe, under 20yrs old or female and can't decide - Wii Wii Wii all the way home. All others head to the light of the green X and be prepared to waste endless hours of unproductive time.

BTW: I am selling my PS2 includes one controller, 2 wireless guitars and Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 3. Includes all boxes. (scott-seven@mailcity.com) lol

    Happy Gaming

Don't be a dumbass!! Wii sucks! I have one (and PS3) and it's fricking boring! Stick with the 360, though I recommend PS3 :D

Ha, man i'm kind of in the same boat as you. Exept the other way around. I have a wii... A lot of games. I'm thinking of a 360 instead. The games on the wii are fun... for a little while but you get bored very quickly. The way the wii remote works is not very fun and makes more games difficult more than fun. I bought the system for my parents to play and to have buddies over and drink. My parents don't play it and my friends don't care to sit around and play wii and drink. Isn't as fun as you would think it is when acually get a few buddies over to play. On top of all that it has boring ass online play. I used to have a 360 right when it came out, and had WAY more fun. With buddies and online. Graphics are better on 360 which is aknow fact and it is easier to play.
  • i don't get most of you saying the wii is great...
    the games so far suck
    EXEPTIONS...
    Excite truck
    Zelda twilight princess
    metroid prime
    madden 08(09 comming soon)
    Guitar hero Legends of Rock
    OK games...
    Super smash bros brawl
Harry potter and the order of the Pheonix
But the only games that are for the wii only are ..
    Zelda
    Metroid
    and super smash
AND yes i do have the wii
and there have been many games made that make no sence whats so ever
there are no shooting games out that have compared to the 360's
    CALL OF DUTY 4
    HALO 3
GEARS OF WAR (2 comming in november)
    Call of duty 3
and probably others that i dont know about
since i dont have the 360 my friend does
    i am done with nintendo
until they can get some good games in their line up
the 360 also has x box live which is a challenge that keeps on going because everyone is good on there
thge x box is worth the money and dont let anyone tell yuo different
  • head
FU** U ASS HOLES!!!!!!!!!!!! THE 360 RULES.
  • I wonder whether there's a spelling / grammar game for either platform....
  • skttrbrain
guys the wii is for kids the genres are split up there isn't a way you could compare a wii and a 360 they both have ups and downs. The wii has some good games. games that are already in a series. The 360 is where games are created for people new games not that mario and zelda arn't fun, sure there fun but most people want something new not games that have been out for a long time. Halo 3 assasins creed gears of war all of these will be created or out and doing really well.

man! its the ps3 or wii, 360 can suck my dick do u no how many attachments r reqiered to play it properly? a bullshit amount .. the wii tho douse have some real good games but the graphics... who the hell wants a polished up gamecube with a fancy remote.. zelda is the only thing going for it thos games rock! but u dont even have to say, the ps3 is the kingpin of consoles now and every1 nos it.. its worth the price
  • Nah. Grahpics? Sure, technically, but most people don't care. Gameplay? Again, for most people (kids and adults alike who aren't interested in games like Gears of War and Halo) I don't see any advantage with the X-Box.

Granted, a lot of the Wii games are simple, but for many people that's what makes a fun game. Wii sports comes with an assortment of very simple sports games. The games themselves would be mediocre if not for the revolutionary new control style, which WILL draw in a lot of people to this system, just from what I've seen personally and heard so far.

Relatively few people in our society are obsessed with gaming enough to dedicate hours of time into a game with a large story behind it and lots of detailed strategy and tactics to learn. I know there are a lot of hard-core gamers, but I'm talking about in the context of the larger general population, they are still few.

If a system can reach into a bigger cut of that general population, they will easily win this contest, and from what I've seen and experienced, the Wii is the perfect candidate for that.

Xbox360 is The better system,Why?, Because The Graphics and Game Play On the 360 Are far more advance then the nintendo wii, The Wii Has Mostly Kid Game And Little Mature Content, Plus The Xbox360 Newly Titles Will Sell for Sure Like Gears of war, And Up and coming Halo3.
  • Ian
I agree with both parts with a few exceptions. the 360 looks great and has a good bit of games. this is only becuase it has been out for about a year now. the Wii of course doesnt look as good one its $350 and half ths size and 2 its not HD. but that doesnt matter wii isnt rellay out and u can get better games in thw frist week than a year of 360 titles. Zelda is a great example. Wii i would say is more fun because of the games being solid. almost any 360 game i can pickup and play beat first try wihthin a day(exception=oblivion) some of nintendos games are hard. this equals fun it really keeps u gaming.i also dont really trust a system that ruins a disc when u move it.plus i have all my NES SNES AND N64 games
. AWesome. and Sega is partnereed with Nintendo it has already been released u can get Genesis games on wii.theres also the pattern. when people saw the controller for the N64 they wen What the HELL is that. ill tell u. best system ever made is wat it was. overall i will own both. but Wii looks much more promising.o ya nad gears of war sucks my dick. oo o it looks good. who cares it repetitive linear and its nooby. if u want good 360 graphics and a good bame go buy CoD3 RIGHT NOW.
  • Scott
I Think the WII will have the same graphics as the 360 but the settings on the 360 are better then what the WII will have.
  • Someone
i am in the same dilema
  • nstryker
i had thought they acquired a select number of genesis games as well as some other old school brands' games. now i can't find anything about the game library from an official sourse...
