Upgrading to intel

The reason for me being upset about the new Apple announcements is I wanted both the new systems, the MacBook and the iMac, now and buying two machines at the same time and eBaying the old has too much loss involved at the same time. But I did notice a few things that made my upgrade process clear.

First and for-most is that the Pro apps will not work on the Intel machines until March. This being the main reason I would want to upgrade is the same reason I won’t be upgrading my iMac g5, most likely ever

The reason for not upgrading the iMac “ever” is that the Macbook pro is as fast if not faster, then the newest iMac. And the reason for the iMac in the first place is so I could edit with pro apps faster because up until now the powerbooks were slow. So the newly bought Macbook will be my main system, the iMac will be my “other” machine. I might even sell the iMac and get just a 20″ monitor to hook the Macbook up to.

You might have noticed I said I bought the Macbook pro, yes, I did already. And the plan is I will get the MB next month, I will wait for the pro apps in March and when I get the new pro apps I will solely work on my MB at crazy speeds unheard of until now.

Anyone notice the new name sucks? MacBook pro. WTF? They didn’t change anything, looks wise. Because of this I speculate the ibook will be just a MacBook and that is how Apple will do things from now on but that’s only speculation since the iMac is still an iMac.

You are a nut. And I’m sure you ordered the $2499 one. It is fast. I’m waiting for the 12″ for $999.

  • http://dancameron.org Dan

    12″ for $999, yeah right.

  • http://dancameron.org Dan

    yeah:

MacBook Pro – 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo
    1GB 667 DDR2 – 2×512 SO-DIMMs
    100GB Serial ATA drive @ 7200 rpm

    $2,299.00

They have to make some smaller and cheaper models later this year. They sell the crap out of iBooks for that reason.

Dang all that for $2299 starts to sounds good. snap. snap. no I just came back to reality. Too much for me right now.

  • http://dancameron.org Dan

only a couple hundred upgrade for me though.

  • http://www.idealistfuture.com JasonB

you don’t think you are going to take a bigger lose this time?

  • http://dancameron.org Dan

I never took a lose more then $100 last time and I would be selling it to people who want the pro apps now and not a months later, if you catch my drift. But yeah, I’d expect 3-4 at the most after final costs.

I thought about the cheaper one but after looking at the memory and HDD upgrades the % of performance and price equal making it almost worth it.

I could always get the cheaper one and that would compensate for a new iMac. I’m so confused.
