Twitter

Hearing so much about Twitter I had to make my own. Yes, it’s just another blog but it’s nice to update it via text message or IM. In contrast to another blog it requires me to be short, similar to another blog I know without the need to comment.

Being a quick thought or message from myself I thought it was more suitable in the header. I just hope it’s notible.

Jason seemed to jump on board only minutes after I signed up and I encourage everyone to do the same. I had reservations since the service started but in only a few hours I’m really fond of it.

Hi Dan! I've checked ur blog it's great! I noticed that you have twitter showing on your homepage. I just want to know how u did it. I'm assuming you are not using the twitter tools because i don't like that plugin, it doesn't work on my end. Do you have the code on how to show it? such as or an rss thing? hope you can share that. thanks in advance!

By the way i tried to use your contact page but when i submit my email to you it says "server unavailable". im not sure if its on my end.

That was my point, you use del.cio.us now but it's old.

Actually, I don't like the conversations that are going on at twitter it's really annoying. But I guess I should say, "Wondering what an ulcer feels like". Since it's more of an action or thought.

Anyways, there is direct messaging too, similar to myspace but if you really want to comment you could do that. Or just wait for Alex's plugin and my twits will be in a daily non homepage displayed post.
  • The "twitback" you describe is sort of silly; reminds me of MySpace "conversations".

I don't dislike things just because they're new; it's just that I don't jump on board immediately just because a lot of people are talking about it. I do use del.icio.us, BTW.
  • Dan
Yeah, if they're questions then they're rhetorical.

Of course the practice around twitter is twitt with "@Dancameron: A stomach ulcer feels horrible."

You should check out Alex King's plugin when it comes out. It will solve all of your reservations about twitter, except for it being new and I know you don't like new, e.g. del.icio.us.
  • I could tell you about that ulcer thing too.
  • My twitter nugget of advice: don't ask questions on your twitter account, since there are no comments, unless they are rhetorical questions.

I would comment on your question about Digg, but I can't; so I guess it was just a rhetorical question.
  • Dan
Well, Google just told me so the answer is in no way.

    What is UPOC?

    Is this like UPOC?

I get it. Looks great. I need to read the biz application. Probably won't use it.
  • I like Twitter in combination with my blog. My blog is still articles and topics and links to other articles I find interesting. Twitter is my place to post quick updates and thoughts about what I'm doing...nice way to see what everyone is up to as well. I'm not addicted or anything, but I see the value/fun in it, but not as a replacement to commenting or blogging overall.
  • Dan
Because posting involves much more then a simple text message or IM about a thought or process you're going through. If I'm at the store and I see something funny or weird I can send off a twitter in a few seconds were a post I'd wait until I got home and then I'd probably over analyze that simple act so much the post would either become too large or be pushed aside because now it's lost it's original meaning.

Another reason I wouldn't want to post these snippets would be the clogging of my site. I would have never posted on the camouflage Lamborghini and I probably wouldn't/couldn't twit anything over a sentence or two.

Jared, I'm sure you could communicate a lot more but I don't see you ever making daily snippet posts on your site.
  • I don't know, I kind of don't get it. Maybe I will eventually, but not yet at least.

I mean, I get that it's just for quick notes / expressions without looking for feedback, but I haven't figured out why I wouldn't just do that on my blog if I wanted to, and disable comments for that post, etc.

commenting seems to be dieing on my blog anyways. kinda weird, since readership hasn't gone done at all. anywho, i like this. too bad the name "twitter" does really fit. sounds like movement more than short thoughts.
