Spiderman 3

Spiderman 3 was awesome and a major let down in one. The action scenes were great the major plot line was solid but the fillers were horrible and distracting.

Spoliers ahead:

The whole John Travolta walking down the street as a cool guy was mind numbingly horrible. The entire first 30 minutes were cheesy to say the least. throughout the beginning 2/3 of the movie I was labeling this as Batman 4-5 and I was worried.

Another part was when the New Goblin fought Spiderman. It was so horrible that at that pointn I remembered Batman and it’s neon trendy devices. That board Harry used was a snowboard looking piece of crap and it didn’t fit with a villain at all. Villains should be dark and scary guys.

The great: The action scenes were some of the best. Very fluid yet fast and extremely visually detailed. The ending scenes made up for hte rest of the movie in my opinion. Seeing Venom for those brief moments was fun.

The over all story line was good. The Brock competition, the twisting love story and the Sandman being Peter’s father’s killer was good. And some may say the ending was sappy but I really liked how that particular plot line ended.

It does look like Venom will be back. Brock was pulled in by the symbiut and saved, and when the dust settled there was nothing.

I’m not sure how close it stuck with the original story since I’m just a fan and not a fanboy but there were a few things I’m wondering about.

Could Sandman always just fly like that? And in control?

Does Harry die like that? Or is he really dead?

Talking with Jared after the movie we figured the cheesy factor was for the kids. But like I said it was almost as if they took every scene that they should have cut (or intended to cut smaller) and instead sliced it all in. It was so out of place and character to over emphasize those plot lines. I’d guess it was one dumb producer’s demand to appease the children’s crazy love for the chucky cheesey humor.

Overall I give it an 8 >.

I’m glad I can now read the comments on my never ending Spiderman 3 post.

This movie could have been one of the greatest ever only if they would have changed a few things. Sandman really could have been left for another movie and Venom/the symbiote should have been the main focuss of this movie. Im not saying this as a Venom fan but simply because their is a great story there that wasn't done justice. Harry also had a lot of potential but so did the rest of this movie...sadly i have to say as a true Spidey fan i was dissappionted.Overall score from me 6/10

This movie did not do it for me...nuff' said.
  • the real truth about Spiderman
First of all, if you think about how Venom was introduced, Spiderman got his Venom costume during the SECRET WARS with the Beyonder. Therefore, Sam Raimi did his best to introduce how Venom came about in this movie because if he did it accurately, it would be too lengthy. As for mentioning the Moon Rock, Jameson's son did bring back a rock but became the Moon Beast (not sure of the exact name...but it was some sort of wolf creature).

There were a lot of inaccuracies in this movie (Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first love so Sam Raimi should have introduced her in the beginning or left her out completely).... All in all if you were to follow Peter Parker's life exactly how it is in the comic book, the movie would drag on and on forever... I don't agree with everything that Sam Raimi did, but let's give him some creative license....
Mary Janes boyfriend in spiderman 2 brought a rock back to earth when he was in space, that was set up to introduce venom, not a random meteorite hitting the earth right next to peter parker, and it just happend to follow him.
look sure the movie has its downs
    but lets be realisit(venom intro)
there is no life on the moon therefore venom couldnt
have came from that rock, and even if he did it wouldnt
make sense think of it like this:if the moon rock was venom then wouldnt it taken john jamoson instead of parker?

topher grace, again being realistic;if normal peter when up agaist normal brock who'd win?normal brock,so of course being normaly stronger'getting the smbiote would make him superhumanly stronger with his(parker)powers

MY REVIEW WILL PROBABLY CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE DON'T READ ON

This movie is all in all bad, They did not follow the story from the first 2 movies. 1 they should ahve never put sandman in it. 2 what was with how sandman got transformed, what were the scientists doing with the sand, and when an experiement is going wrong, any normal scientist would stop their experiment. Characters were introduced randomly, Mary Janes boyfriend in spiderman 2 brought a rock back to earth when he was in space, that was set up to introduce venom, not a random meteorite hitting the earth right next to peter parker, and it just happend to follow him. I think if you followed the other 2 movies, you should see the movie to know what happens, but you will not be happy. Topher Grace was also a bad venom, he was into the part, but he just wasnt a good Eddie Brock, Eddie Brock was a weight lifter in the comics, that why the symbiote made him that much stronger then it did spiderman. I give this movie a 0.09 out of 10. All i can say is, good job on cramming a bunch of stuff into 3 hours.

It is odd how Sandman can fly in a form of a cloud....reminds me of Gaara from Naruto
  • I guess you have a point; if you're a fan it's still worth seeing. But, on the other hand, if you aren't a fan of this kind of movie (or just aren't familiar with the genre), I'd definitely recommend avoiding it, because I wouldn't want this to be anyone's first impression of a super hero movie.

Yeah an 8 is really generous but my scoring is rather weird becuase I rate on if the movie is worth seeing not a score on par with the great movies of our time. If I were to grade that way I would have to say a 2. Which sucks because with a two you're saying never see this movie even on DVD but I don't feel that way because if you did see the others its still worth it.
  • Yeah, I got that it was intentional, but it was a bad idea, in my opinion. He's a good actor; giving good writing and direction they could have done something more believable as far as the change goes.

the travolta stuff was what i was talking about in that they had to show a change and instead of anakin skywalkering it, they did it in an intentionally cheesy way. it's almost like they assumed they wouldn't be able to realistically pull it off, so they went super cheesy with it. it definitely could've been edited down. i'm actually surprised there isn't a financial motivation to cut down these flicks to the bare minimum. friday was completely sold out and i assume saturday was as well. right now 16 is doing 19 shows daily. assuming it takes a half hour to turn the theater around, if they cut down the movie from 2.5 hours to 2, they could almost squeeze in four more shows daily and really boost their opening weekend box office.
  • No, Sandman can't fly (at least in the books I've read - they may have changed that in newer stories).

An 8 is a very generous rating, IMO, assuming you're talking out of ten, of course. If that's the case, I give it a 2.5
