Outage = Media Temple Grid Server Suckage

I can’t believe this. Media Temple has really let me down in their performance and customer service. I had to call them in order for them to put my ticket in some kind of priority to be fixed, unless it was just a coincidence that 5 minutes after I called we’re back up.

They’re complaining/responding that it’s a wp issue,

It looks like the problem was your object cache.

…domains/dancameron.org/html/wp-content/cache/wp_object_cache.lock
You had over 40 php scripts on each node of the cluster running and attempting to get a lock on that file.

But they later say it’s an issue with NTFS which I’m on, sounds to me like their issue.

As you can tell I’m a little pissed and I’m going to be looking into some Virtual Servers. Any recommendations? I might go with GoDaddy since they’re so cheap. But will a VM solve issues like this? I know I could just fix it myself but how would I know?

ARggg.

HI HO, HI HO, Its Off to Dream Host I go!

The “maintenance” was supposed to be 1.5 hours, then they changed it to 6 and now “they don’t know” I am seriously pissed at these guys. I wasted over a hundred dollars in PPC clicks going to a site that isn’t there.

This massive outage is unacceptable I am definetly moving my servers elsewhere…
  • To be honest, (mt) is somewhat overpriced for the features they offer. However, some users (ie; forum owners) need them.

Despite the horrible functionality of the grid, that pales in comparison to medlatemple's customer service and technical support. They made the mistake of switching to a grid that is a total mess yet the customer pays the price for their mistake. I have been dealing with 2 months of tickets direct talk with a manager and im still waiting over a week to even get responses. So far im going on 2 months of about a dozen tickets, thats more than triple the amount of tickets I opened over the previous 3 years on their shared server. Id advise anyone who is considering joining to do some serious rethinking before making that choice.

"Media Temple Grid Server" is spanish for "Clusterfuçk"

    I hope they go bankrupt.

I would use them as a my future VPS solution if they weren't so expensive. I signed up with Spry and it's at least 1/2 the price.
  • I'm on the Grid Server too and have had some issues. However I actually would strongly recommend Media Temple for their VPS systems. That's what I used to have and it really was incredible. The speed coming off it was better than that of a dual Operton dedicated I had with a different host.

there haven been sooooo many problems with the grid server that they are too many to mention.

    have a look:

The grid server is a boondoggle. I set up a site for testing before migrating anything important. Good thing - (gs) has had an endless string of problems. Tech Support response time measured in days, not hours.

Media Temple appears to have bitten off more than they could chew. The product is virtually unusable, the support is virtually non-existant. Save yourself the grief and aggravation. Wait until they get this thing sorted out, if ever.
  • "Grid" is the new black of the hosting indsutry with companies all saying they have it but no one truly does. Media Temple made promises they can't keep and now their customers are suffering.

  • I hope they resolve this issues fast. I am currently a user of the mediatemple GS. It was buggy initially but things seems to be getting better.
  • That is unfortunate - I was looking into switching to MT's new grid server setup, but I'm going to give them a few more months and see what people are saying then.

I've heard good things about A Small Orange. Currently I'm on bluehost and dreamhost, both cheap, but not good for high traffic.
  • I've been using a VPS on Spry for quite a while now without any issues. They're pretty cheap and I've got unlimited bandwidth. They just re-launched their VPS packages, though, and I haven't checked out the new plans.
  • I switched to Jaguar PC after Real Web Host let me down (they suspended me site every time I got any significant traffic). Jaguar have been great so far - I'm on a semi-dedicated plan and it's been what I expect from a host.
