Moving on

Time to move and get out of this mess. Things are running so poorly right now that I don’t even know if it’s the box, my admin’ing or 1and1 bandwith. I’m just fed up.

So I am moving to a shared hosting provider called Media Temple.

This only means that your sites will be down; Sara, Jason, Jared, theB and Stryker; for a little while next week, or should I do it over the weekend? All I need to do is move all your content and then update the sql DBs right before the propagating begins.

    I rather not worry about it and then just update the DB after the switch. I'm actually working on it right now so by tommorow the sites will be on the new host.

    Hopefully there won't be any breaks. I'm really worried about Nathans somment system.
  • Hey, if your new host allows another open port, you may want to set up the databases on the new server, and then have the web files on both hosts point to the database on the new host, this way people will get the same content while the DNS updates.

    The only downside would be that the people hitting the old site will get pretty slow responses compared to the people hitting the one where the db is on the same box, but that will only last until their name servers update.

    Looks like I will be working on it this weekend but if I can't get everything set this server will have to do for a little while.
