iPod Nano

Went to bestbuy today, for work, and noticed the iPod nano from afar, I scampered over there, touched it and fell in love. As you already know I am a huge iPod fan and noticing that my 40gb iPod photo, that I recently purchased, is too big so I went back to work and ordered the nano. After the Vegas trip this weekend I came to the conclusion that my listening habits are 85% podcasts, 12% of the newest cd releases and 3% having my full library available at any time. Having all my music just confuses me (scrolling for days) and my casts only take up 500mb so logically the nano fits perfect. And for portable storage outside my 512 stick I also plan to use my old 10gb (with ipod linux) for data so that extra space I had on my 40gb is no longer needed. Goodbye iPod photo and say hello to eBay…welcome nano.

  • To be clear, I never said it was a "scam", I said it was a "scheme", as in pyramid scheme. It's just like Amway and all the other MLM based businesses - it gets you to put a lot of work in to selling their products for relatively little reward, as Nathan pointed out.

For the few people who actually put enough work into it for them to make enough money to get you an ipod, then it is a steal for them, since your time/labor is worth more to them then whatever they pay for the ipod. For everyone else who tries it but gives up after they realize how much they have to continually nag their friends and family just to break even, they just got you to do a whole buch of work for them without getting paid at all.

The second part of Nathan's comment is kind of what I was trying to say. I don't consider the ipod truly "free" if in order to get it you have to get a ton of your friends to sign up for things they don't need.

On the old free ipod deal, I remember there being a lot of talk about how (for the services that were paid), you could just tell your friends to cancel after a certain period of time, so hey, it's "free". The reality is that it doesn't work like that. A lot of those types of agreements will indicate that the "free month" (or whatever the trial period is) is only free if you decide to stick with the service, otherwise you may be billed for it. Even if they don't state this in the contract, a lot of companies (even established ones - namely AOL) have policies of making it very difficult to unsubscribe from the service, so your friends and family will end up getting billed for at least one month's worth of the service. This is even more common with the smaller companies, since they know that it isn't worth it for you to fight them in court over an amount less than $100.

it's not necessarily a scam, they really do give ipods away, it just turns you into a salesman for the companies they represent. and for the amount of footwork you'll do to get friends to sign up...you're a pretty poorly paid salesman at that.

these things piss me off, so don't take the rest of this personally...

in the end, you sell out all your friends and then wag your free ipod in their faces. oh and they couldn't get their own free ipod because every one that would be willing too "help," already signed up for crazy stuff for you. so if you wanna be some corporation's whore, go right ahead, but i won't be your john.

haha ok cool, thanks JaredB.. but their are trails that you can take and you will get full credit for them. They also indicate that you will get full credit. Like one of their canadian tire $1 trial offer (although they charge you a dollar) but either than that it's totally free.

I dont' recommend anyone join yet then... if it's a scam then i'll be first to let you 's know. If I do get my ipod.. than it'll post it here.
  • Similar to the old free ipod "deal" and other MLM programs like Amway, the only way you will ever get anything is by nagging all your friends and family to sign up for / buy things that they don't need, and you'll have to do a heck of a lot of that for them to be able to make enough money to give you a free ipod. Sure, some people may get them, but most will not be willing to become hated by their friends for convincing them to sign up for services and get charged for them (even when they try to cancel early).

"As for the free nanos, all I can say is NOT THIS AGAIN! When will people learn about these MLM-style schemes?"

can you give me more info please, cause I don't want to be scamed lol... I alrdy joined it too.

    Thanks
  • As for listening to podcasts while working, I find that it depends on the type of work you're doing. For a while there I was listening to a lot when I was in research / design mode, but right now I'm just writing a lot of code, and I do find that speaking can be distracting when you're concentrating and working on a complex concept, so I listen to music more currently and am getting a little behind on podcasts.

As for the free nanos, all I can say is NOT THIS AGAIN! When will people learn about these MLM-style schemes?

i don't know how you can listen to talking and work at the same time.
  • Yes the engraving is readable. And yes I agree with you on my listening habits also. I can't stop listening to podcasts. Just don't listen to much music for some reason at work. I guess it may have something to do with the level of nerdiness that I have been experiencing. Partially your fault Dan.

Can Anyone make out the engraving?
