eBay – ps3

Looks like the eBay market is saturated with PS3s. The days of a 3K system are no more.

It really says something when people are camping just to sell the system on eBay. It could be one of the hundred reasons why the PS3 isn’t a good choice but I think people intentionally made a job decision to camp for 4+ days to make what they thought was going to end up as a $400+ a day untaxed job. A smart move for the kids but they should have paid more attention in economics class. The good news is people don’t want a ps3 and the lines that I saw this morning for the Wii makes me think it’s the system kids are getting for Christmas. That means Nintendo is back and the console wars have begun. Wii in 06-07′, PS3 in ‘08 and the 360 will continue to be second with better games and a better home strategy. Actually I could see the 360 beating them all if enough HD lovers couldn’t wait for the PS3 that they originally wanted or awoke to the fact the ps3 has no good games and wont until Q3 ‘07.

Jared: You're right, a lot of people do not have HD sets but the people that buy them are much more inclined to purchase HD-DVD or Blueray players and/or HD game systems. Especially since the people that have HD right now are somewhat early adopters who have paid a premium, and a premium cost for a game system is an accessory that those people are willing to pay.

As for it depending on the games. You're right but you have to factor in that people want "next gen" games and the Wii isn't next gen, it's a more fun gamecube. It's a damn fun system from what I've heard and I will get one but people want Gears of War, Halo 3, COD3 to look great and it does make a difference, specifically through submersion. Submersion is a factor of gameplay.

The thing the Wii doesn't have is is the one thing that will hurt it; graphics. The great thing about the Wii is the sheer fun of the games, submersion doesn't matter when you're having fun. Another benefit of the system would be word-of-mouth and playing it at a friends house.

I hope we both get one soon. It will be fun to play online together or meet-up and have a Wii'ol party.
  • First - Dave, re: eBay I wouldn't know much, since I've never personally sold anything on eBay. Martha has sold a lot and has an excellent rating, and I'm pretty sure Dan has sold quite a lot of tech stuff there, so he'd probably be the best one to answer. One thing I can tell you is that there is an eBay France site (ebay.fr), but I don't know whether it's legit and it's all in French anyway so it's not much use to me. I'd recommend just going with the standard eBay.com - the audience is almost guaranteed to be orders of magnitude larger (and still includes international visitors) which means that you'd probably get a better price on whatever you're selling.

As for the assesment of the short term future (Wii taking the lead and then PS3 overtaking them after a year or so), I've said it before and I'll say it again - I think it all depends on the games; specifically whether they're fun or not, not the graphics quality, etc. A secondary factor could be living room media integration stuff (like the XBox does).

As for HD and/or next gen DVD (blue ray, etc), I don't think the general public could care less about either. A very small percentage of the public even has a TV capable of viewing HD content (whether it's from a game or a DVD). Maybe people who are more into TV than I am would disagree, but HD is still too expensive for my tastes. Sure it's nice, but not worth the money in my book.

Dan or JB, or even NS or other,

I would like to sell a few electronic items on ebay france? Is it possible?
Does ebay have a separate french site?
