Dan Cameron 2.0

I setup a brand new theme. I couldn’t help myself since I can now have rolling archives. it’s just so damn great, thanks Michael and Neo.

A few things you should notice: The rolling archives of course, the activity is larger and more in charge now, the tag and elsewhere dropdown (just click the link above the top post), inline asides, and the best thing ever a “AJAX”/DHTML drag and drop form field for commenting.

The comment form is my favorite part. I really found out that I need to learn more about coding and CSS. It took me 30 minutes to figure out that the solution to all my problems was a relative:position for the box, it took me so long to figure that out and I just happened to think of it before I found it worked. Go check it out, I love it.

As for the people wondering about Sca4ered, I most likely will stop the development on it, maybe release my old theme as the replacement and I will release this theme later but it will not have my style/my colors. Before that I need to figure out how to make the drag and drop comment form a plugin for others to use. Any help to where I should look would be great.

So what do you think?

I don't like sidebars. I should really post on it but I think they clutter up space too much and if you can avoid them you might as well. My index has everything on it that I want, nothing other then blog links or a shoutbox I could add and feel pleased about the purpose of the addition.
I understand that not having sidebars looks abnormal from other blogs but that's the point, I want something that is designed different and puts the info in a better style then the cookie cutter styles that are so prominent.
Does anyone even look at sidebars anymore? I don't.
FYI. I'm still not finished with the width, I need to collect some info before find the perfect content width.

so seriously, what's up with all the blank space on the sides?
  • Dan
From the sides? Are you insane? You might need something checked.

    But if you were serious:
Design - it wouldn't work, especially with people with smaller screens, like a 12" iBook.
Functionality and flow - goes against the grain too much.
  • why don't use do some "blades" that come in from the sides?
  • Dan
There is nothing that I would want to clutter up my theme enough to make this a three or two column template.

    Just no need.

I can include everything with more sliders, like the tags and elsewhere. I am contemplating moving activity to a new slidedown to share it with something and then have the footer only archives. It makes more sense.
  • Lots of room off to both sides of the main reading area. You thinking about droppin' a 3 column theme to fill in the space? I bet you are.
  • Yeah I noticed Dan. Nice, I really like the look of your site. Good work!!
  • Dan
    Tony: You're welcome.

Phil: I just got it to work.
  • Thanks Dan for allowing me to continue the work that you've started with Sca4ered.
  • Dan
Sca4ered will still see development. Tony was kind enough to jump in and help the dev, I will also release my older theme to somewhat replace it.
  • This looks great!

Question though, since you're going to stop updating the sca4ered theme is it best to stop using it? There's still the obvious problem of IE 6 hating it.
  • Dan
Yeah that is what I was talking about and I use OS X so I know what it looks like I just don't know how to fix it.
  • I would edit my post but I can't. Did you mean the form working in Safari or the Tags dropdown??

The form works, but the drop down has a big gap underneath it. The gap stays under the drop down link when its collapsed or open. Email me or leave a comment if you want some screen grabs.
  • I love this!! It's immense!! I hope you can make it into a plugin for others to use. I'm on Safari by the way, and it seems to be playing nicely!!
  • Dan
I'm over sidebars for this design. And the sideabr on the pages is something I still need to fix.
  • BTW, is the theme going to have a 'sidebar' - i think it would be a great idea. Non the less, your sidebar in the 'Archives' page seems to be not aligned and it is right at the bottom right side.
  • Yet another brillaint design and work... lookiing forward to the release (It works fine on Firefox... so good reason for it to go live :) )
  • Dan
A long time after I figure out why Safari doesn't like it.

Dan, how long before you release this one?
  • Dan - I really like this. Good job!
