Caring

How absurd is it that everyone is bringing up this poor mans execution now; after and just before.

I would understand if the people bringing it up now where on the bandwagon from day one, when he still had the label of killer on his face. But now/recently he has been relabeled as an “innocent soul” because of his good deeds in prison. And because of these great deeds a following started and people started petitioning asking for grievance.

What if he didn’t do anything extraordinary in prison? Would the same people grieving now be upset or even care if he was executed the day after sentence? I strongly don’t think so.

All I’m saying is if you are against the death penalty lets here it year round through every case. Not just the “different” cases. And stop bringing up how good a person has recouped because every ones case might be different if that held up in re-trial.

My personal belief is somewhat against the death penalty. Because the death penalty doesn’t help anything at all. I view killing/executing and locking up no different in the basis of public safety because the person is in a controlled environment. But execution isn’t based on safety it’s more of a statement or a message, similar to “you do the crime be prepared to do the time” or “an eye for an eye”. I also think it is meant to close the predicament that cased the sentence, like a grieving family over slayed children.

It’s a tough decision and I’m glad I didn’t have the opportunity to decide this mans for fate or any others because I don’t know what I would do. But doing nothing is sometimes caring in more ways then one.

  • I didn't think you were talking to me; I was just using myself as an example, to illustrate that there are probably a lot of people like me who have talked about this issue before (extensively) and will in the future, so I was just saying that I don't think it's necessarily accurate to say that they haven't talked about it and won't in the future. That may be true for some, but probably not most.

Also, even if someone hasn't spoken up about it before now, I don't really think that disqualifies them from talking about it now; but I got the impression that's what you were saying; perhaps I read it wrong.

I wasn't talking about anyone in particular.

    So get over yourself.

I never said you have to talk about it every day but when you have never talked about it and then you just start up now it's sort of obvious. I'm still not talking about anyone at the B, there are more blogs out there besides yours and Nathan's that I read. And it's not just blogs.
  • Just because you're not conversing about it every single day of your life doesn't mean that you don't think it's an important issue. I do feel strongly about it, but I'm not going to post about it every single day on my blog.

I wasn't talking about anyone in particular. Except the part about caring because I think even though people don't do something to fill your need it doesn't mean they don't care.

I also want to point out that most people involved in conversation now will not be later, say in a couple weeks, including myself.
  • I think I've made it pretty clear that I'm always against the death penalty, year round, and in *every* case; don't know if you were referring to me or not.

I went into some more detail on Nathan's blog about this specific case, because there are some interesting arguments for why the execution should have been at least delayed, even if you do agree with the death penalty.
