Blog Out

For some reason my blog went down. Most likely do to a server error on Media Temple’s side and not mine, for a change. Looked around the web and it seems it’s a /tmp issue.

After I found out that I was getting the “error 28″ message I tried to repair the tables in phpMyAdmin but that didn’t help. Next I renamed my DB within the web panel from Media Temple to make MySQL reset. Well it didn’t work since from then after I’ve been getting a connection error to the DB. Worried I check in phpMyAdmin and there’s no DB.

I’m not too worried, MT is on the case and it should be back up soon. Technically whenever this post is up my site will be back up with it.

I guess it’s time to get rsync setup at home. I really don’t know why I’m waiting since rsync is built into OS X and I’ve already used it more then a few times for work. And then there’s this awesome tutorial.

Update: As you can tell I wrote this post while my site was down. MT was not a help at all, they turned out to be worse thing since they locked me out of my web control while they were working on it.

How I fixed the it: I just renamed the DB again, it showing up in phpMyAdmin and then I ran a repair on all the DBs. I noticed a huge overhead on the options table which could have caused the problem.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me before too. And the repair fixed it, which I noticed in your delicious after the fact. But the real problem was MT locking me out of the system for over 12 hours to only let me back in to fix it for myself. That was crazy.

Anyways, I'm going to setup rsync at home and maybe have my blog publish to two DBs just in case it happens again I can switch to the other or have it automated some how.
  • Mine went down last night. But just the main area of my blog.

This helped me fix it myself: http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/repair/

I had the same problem when my Wordpress DB disappeared recently and MT fixed it. Here is the email I got from them about the problem:

"This is a common occurence when using the Ensim system to create a database. You can fix this issue by simply renaming the database to something else and then naming it back. Then simply login to your PHPMyAdmin section and you should be able to see it with no problem.

I've done this for you this time as a courtesey, but if it does happen again, those are the steps to fix it yourself! :)"
