Arrived

I’m here in Pittsburgh for the week to get some administration training on websphere commerce. I’m not too excited about the trip, it’s in the middle of the huge deployment project of websphere and I’m away from my girls. the trip didn’t start well either.

I arrived at Oxnard on time but it turned out my flight was cancelled so the next flight would have made be arrive here in Pitts. at 10am. I told him that it wouldn’t work since my course starts at 9 and I’ve already booked a hotel for the night. The next available flight turned into a 6am arrival, which wouldn’t work out either, I couldn’t imagine not getting any sleep and walking off the plan into class. Then finally a manager found me a flight to DC then back to Pitts. only an hour later then my original 10pm arrival. The good and bad was they had to pay for a cab to take me to LAX. Not ideal but more comfortable then a small plane that’s for sure.

So I’m here and my first impression of Pitts. lies at the airport which is one of the best airports I’ve been too. They had a huge kids area, a T. Rex, a mall and a subway. I was impressed. I rented a car and I added a Garmin which will be the best descion I make on this trip.

I couldn’t imagine driving to my hotel from the airport without it. There were 8-10 freeway transitions and the streets are so complicated and so poorly light. Its also incredibly easy to use. I’ve already plugged in tomorrows trip just by searching for IBM. I wonder how much extra the thing was, either way totally worth it.

The time difference is going to wreck me. Or maybe this guy slamming the door at 130am is going to effect me more.

I also have to add I was selected for secondary search. Where they pull you aside and search you in front of everyone for that false sense of security. It sucked.
