Uh Oh, Gmail Just Got Perfect

Google quietly added a small feature to Gmail this week called Mail Fetcher. When that feature launched, Gmail became perfect.

I know how far your paranoia stretches, no need to say it again. But I didn't know it stretched for that long. 10 years, wow that's a long time.

Anyways, you can always change your pop password it's not that big of a secret. Most people's pop passwords are thrown around unencrypted anyways so it wouldn't be too hard for someone to get that or just grab e-mails at your local starbucks. Or any password for that matter.
  • It's not the brilliant yet good intentioned employees who currently work at Google that you have to worry about, so much as the fact that that kind of data is all stored in one place, which makes it a prime target for people who aren't as interested in preserving your privacy.

These could be "bad apple" employees or people not officially / legitimately affiliated with Google at all who find some way to access the information, at any point in the present OR in the future. Google might be a great company today (by most accounts they are), but there's no guarantee what they'll be like in the next ten years.

Nah, with the PHDs Google has they just need to write a few algorithms and formulas to figure out your passwords by scanning that gig of email you've written.
  • Not unless you're already e-mailing and/or forwarding them to (or through) your gmail account.
  • Dan
They could get those passwords from your e-mails anyways so you shouldn't have to worry about that.
  • Yeah, now you can give Google access not only to all your conversations, but your passwords to other accounts as well!

I don't think everyone can forward there mail. I know it was a hassle for me to get my mail to forward at work just because I had to manually do it on the mail server since the filters weren't working correctly. So for you and me it's not that big of a deal, although I'd prefer to do it this way, but for the rest of the world it's pretty damn good.

Couldn't you always forward any other accounts into G-Mail? I'm not sure why this is a huge improvement over doing that, but maybe I'm missing something.
