Lost is found. The best theory to date.

I don’t even know if I want to read this. What do you think?

I know Jason will look at it, Jason: if you do tell me if I should read it as well.

He starts off well but it takes a nosedive around when he starts hammering on about collective consciousness. That's a deus ex machina if ever I saw one.

And besides, it doesn't much explain who the Others are, nor the fact that the survivors aren't the special ones, they are the ones that the Others have no use for.

I agree the whole collective consciousness is a little far fetched for a TV show, even for lost.

But I've though that the showdow monsters are dependant on the magnetic aspect of the island for a while so non of that was news to me, expecially the part about it being mechanical since anyone listening could hear that it is.

Yeah, that was a great analysis. I read through the first 10 or so pages so far (only reading Andrew's comments).

I think the relationship to the magnetic / pole shifting stuff is pretty clear since it's been more than hinted at, and I think a lot of people (including me) were leaning towards that kind of an explanation for even some of the other things (a scientific explanation as opposed to supernatural or alien).

The collective consciousness theories are the only thing that I think may be off, but it's as good a theory as any for now.

One thing I really hope is that they never fully explain all of these points, at least not until the last episode. That is one of the great things about the series right now. Ideally they would take it maybe a couple more seasons, then start over with a new show, new story, same storytelling style and basic feel.

The other interesting thing about this speculation is that it's still an ongoing series, so the writers could theoretically change things if they want to keep people from finding the "truth".

I agree that it's not spoiler material; these are the kinds of discussions that I love, and one of the reasons that Lost is at the top of the list for TV shows for me.
  • Man I felt like Neo after he was first jacked in and the Matrix was explained to him. That theory fueled my LOST fire for sure. I'm gonna get on the forums and go off.
  • 51 pages? Mine was only 13. Dude I loved that. It does not qualify as a spoiler although I know some people don't even like hearing about speculation or ideas about LOST. I am not one of those people. The first theory he discusses is something I know a lot about. We will have some fun stuff to talk about. Read the back and forth in the comments, the discussion is great. The guy with the theory keeps it going while answering tons of questions.

I just read the first page. 51 more to go. But his explanation is pretty good with a lot of research to back it up.

It makes total sense but what I do not like about is that he leaves everything explained by this certain phenomena. So if there were any challenge upon his theory he could dismiss it with [blank].

He definitely is on to something.
  • Thank you. Printing this now to read during lunch. I'll let you know if you should read it. The most recent official LOST podcast talked about some cool stuff this last week. Fast forward through the interview with the actor that plays Michael. Boring character and boring actor. They should have axed him instead of Shannon.
