Not one of the best articlees I’ve read at Newsvine but surely a good one. Jared would appreciate it. And instead of linking to it, becuase you need to be a user of newsvine I decided to post it all here.
If you would allow me the honor, I would like to add another acronym to our already acronym-laden technical subculture: JAAA. To pronounce this acronym in every-day speech, adopt the accent of a lazy, male, entitled 23-year old German and drawl it out, like, “jaaaaaaaaaa.”
And what does it stand for? “Just Another AJAX Application”
It is sad that it has come to this. First of all, having something be known as an “AJAX Application” is silly, an application shouldn’t be best known for the tools used to build its interface. Branding something as an “AJAX Application” is the technical equivalent of touting your “Plastic and Chrome Digital Music Player.” But this is how marketing has embraced the AJAX revolution, by turning into the latest buzzword.
My frustration stems from the countless job postings that go something like this:
“CEO needed for hot Web 2.0 Company.”
“Sr. Developer needed for V.C. funded AJAX company.”
“Lead Designer for AJAX application.”
If you too are frustrated by these developments, just as you were frustrated when people were lauding CSS as more than a powerful tool in a web-developer’s handbag, then join me in embracing JAAA.
Next time somebody gets excited in casual conversation and starts boring you with their latest AJAX innovation, start channeling your inner-Franz, give them a sleepy eyed leer, and drawl, “JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.” Then sip your Guinness and storm off in righteous indignation.
