Home / asides / AIM Pages: First Screenshot
AIM Pages looks to be a real “Myspace killer”. Two reasons: 1. Parents don’t mind the name because AOL is already known as family friendly. 2. The pages don’t look like crap.
do they host music? that’s the only reason i’m on myspace.
yeah but do you really think people will stop myspace and go over to aim. I know i don’t plan on it. aim is just a copy cat site. i’d be interested to see how well it takes off. freakin myspace is so main stream that hot topic has shirts about it.
This will be an interesting one to watch.
MySpace has the advantage in their huge user base who will probably not want to try to use / juggle two similar systems and will not move off of the one that already has all the users until the other one has just as many, which therefore wouldn’t happen (chicken/egg situation).
On the other hand, a lot of MySpace users probably already also use AIM, so if they can integrate and hook into that as much as possible, they may be able to sway enough people over to get the critical mass that will attract all the other MySpacers.
My prediction is that AOL will offer music hosting, since they already do something like that now (I think - don’t know the details).
I think / predict that their hook to bring people over will be adding the ability to set up video & audio conferences (but they’ll probably call them “parties” or something cuter) using AIM with all their friends they’ve collected. If anyone from AOL is reading this, feel free to steal that idea, just to give MySpace a run for their money.
And myspace shoots back.
