The worst Google app ever

Google Reader was just released today and I am thoroughly disappointed. I thought the developers would release something similar to feedlounge, something easy to use while giving great functionality. Google reader does neither.

The bad:
The UI is horrible; the “lens” feature is…um…cheesy looking.
The labels are a cool feature but they’re on what looks like the subscription admin panel.
They need to adopt a three column view. Maybe a greasemonky script would help.

The good:
Like Feedlounge it is online.
Way faster then feedlounge.
Gmail integration.
Podcast support. It puts a flash player in the post to play the enclosures.

I’m just glad it’s in the labs still; maybe they’ll address my grips in beta.

More to come.

  • ya, I did those trackbacks too; I'll have to go back and resubmit them sometime.

I like SK2 more every day. On mine, there was a lot with WPBlacklist that was slipping through, whereas now there is none. It does have a lot of options, but for the most part you can keep the out of the box settings and they work pretty well.

Maybe it was the blacklist plugin. I just setup Spam Karma 2; way too many options.

It works now. Sort of weird because it was the time since plugin I was using. I don't know how that could block the trackback or pingbacks but it did.

Anyways, that's cool to see that AK linked to me. Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't read that post yet, and may not have noticed his link to me until I saw it in Mint.

You can try again, all you need to do is edit then save, that should work. Did you trackback to the Bridgeblogs on JD too?
  • Are your trackbacks not working? I just tried, and I also saw Alex's post that linked to this article, but I don't see any track/pingbacks...

PS - I think aggregator is spelled wrong in your tag
  • I'll have to try it out more to see what I think of the UI, but in the few seconds I checked it out today it was OK for me. Probably as long as it works, it's ok with me.

The speed is a big thing for me, so I'm happy to hear that it's faster than feedlounge. The podcast support is pretty cool too, since it makes it easier to catch a quick cast from a different location if you don't have access to your normal feeds (like Odeo, but without having to manage another account, since most people already have GMail). I probably won't use this one too much either, but it's a cool feature to have just in case.
