Apple vs Microsoft

An intern compares her experiences and comparisons between the two companies.

** Work Stuff ** As a dev, you have more say at Apple which is cool.. and you do the design stuff too. Apple places more emphasis on User Interface (arguably instead of features) and would strip features if they can’t figure out a good one. They don’t say “well, this works I guess” but look for a really good UI instead. And, a bunch of people participate in the design process instead of just one PM. Microsoft, though, emphasizes features more than UI and (I feel) since only one person does the design for a particular feature, the overall quality of the UI is worse. This, I feel, is why Apple tends to have better UI’s than Microsoft, but also why I like Microsoft product better (I’d rather have features than pretty UI).
