1. OS X and Win running together in harmony

Yonah will be dual core, it will have VT and it will also have SMT (Intel calls this Hyperthreading). In effect this will mean that one single chip will have dual core and dual threads per core so instead of 1:1 chip:thread ratio it will be 1:4. You should be able to run OSX & WIndows and maybe even something else with probably no performance hit, the hdd and RAM will probably be the bottlenecks if anything (hdd most likely). People may whine about yonah not being emt64 – but VT is much much bigger than 64bit from a usefulness standpoint. Merom due out shortly afterwards will solve that issue anyway.

  2. Scattered look

If your not reading this through a feed reader then you probably noticed that I’ve changed the look and feel of my site entirely. I’ve contemplated changing to a new layout for a while and I noticed squible had done what I wanted to do; almost. So what I’ve done is take the theme, hack it a little and style it to the look I want. normally I would have just finished the theme before pushing it out to you but I want to take the road Binary is doing; progression. So in the next few weeks you will see some more changes, next up flickr, and finally a completion.

I know it doesn’t look like a blog anymore, that’s why I like it. What do you think.

  3. Google set to release Video Blog service?

I noticed a link this morning on the footer of the Google video site.

    It stated “Video Blog New!“.
The link currently takes you to

Is Google getting ready to release video blogging through blogger? Was the
link a mistake or was the protected sub domain.

    Here
is a Google group on the subject.

  4. What Housing Bubble?

Pulled from this months Wired and a continuation on this post.

    A very interesting article.

DISCLAIMER: Sorry for the PDF link.

  5. New Powerbook leaving AK via Fedex

The PowerBook G4. Your mobile life just got better. High-resolution displays. Longer battery life. 7200rpm hard drives. DVD burning across the line

Hopefully it will be here tomorrow but Thursday (projected) will do. Hopefully the back up of the older PB will work with the OS X transefer in setup, otherwise I will have to install all that software again.

Hummm…maybe I might just start from scratch.

BTW I am on the Apple Powerbook tradeup plan associated with EBay. That’s why I always get a new one. The plan: Sell the original on eBay the day the new one comes out –do not wait–, then buy the new one with a discount. After fees you pay approx. $75 (this time $50). Not bad huh? I figure if I kept the machine for 4 years before an upgrade I would be loosing a lot more.

Don’t you love Apples and how they don’t depreciate like PC laptops do.

  8. Financial plan

An extension of this converstation, I thought it needed it’s own space.

Nathan commented about how…well you might as well just read it.

there’s no point. you buy a house, pay into your mortgage, your family grows, you buy another house, and what you get from the first makes a nice down payment on the second. your mortgage stays the same, but now you’re in it for another 30 years. but in less time than that, your kids are gone and you don’t need the room. you down size, get a new mortgage. by the time you actually own the home (not the bank) you’re about 10 years from death. woo! you wasted your whole life making bankers rich, just to finally own a small junker. when you go your kids will sell it off and buy a nice car. maybe renting from private parties is the way to go.

While I disagree with the notion I do agree with some of it because while you buy a 500k house now it will appreciate so you can later upgrade, yes you will be paying the same losing the money you accrued because you invested it into another bigger house but there are better ways.

If you could afford it rent it. The renters will pay for the old mortgage and maybe even a little more for your new house because of inflation. Then after 10-15 years you own another house straight up. Then that rent money will pay for your new mortgage, helping you along. when you are ready to retire or move into a smaller house you sell the newer house and live off of the money or even better you rent it and sell it later when you are retired. Maybe a tuff plan to do here in VC since two mortgages, even supplemented by rent, is very hard to do for that 10-15 years.

Housing equity is the best financial stability you can have. It appreciates solidly, it’s almost guaranteed. The best retirement plan ever. Better yet it’s the only thin you can use as investment and use, you can’t sleep in the bank.

This is something, hopefully, we intend to do. And if we have to move to a cheaper housing market to do so then so be it. Especially since this could be a job, sitting around watching your houses appreciate while your tenants screw them up.

  9. Test Post from Flock

This is just a test post from Flock. Hopefully, soon I will post a review. Like the many reviews I say I do it probably wont happen so bare with me.

  10. Technorati Profile

Can’t believe my site is one of the Top 1,000 (849). I might not get as many hits as Jared (37,416), only 1,500 uniques a day, but at least technorati likes me better .
